Disney and Earth Day
Disney's 60-Year Pledge to Environment Continues
With an environmental legacy that spans more than 60 years, The Walt Disney Company® is dedicated to preserving the planet for future generations. Building on this legacy, Disney recently announced long-term environmental goals to reduce emissions, waste, electricity and fuel use, as well as the company's impact on water and ecosystems. The Company is committed to minimizing its overall impact on the environment while encouraging and activating environmentally responsible behavior on the part of Cast Members and employees, guests and business associates throughout the world. This edition of MouseMail highlights some of the many ways Walt Disney World® Resort celebrates the environment on Earth Day and throughout the year.
Environmental Initiatives Impact Bottom Line
Conserving resources isn't just good for the environment, it's good for business. In fact, numerous Walt Disney World environmental initiatives are making an impact on the bottom line. For example, modifications to the company's linen washing process is saving 29 million gallons of water each year - enough to fill the aquarium at The Seas with Nemo and Friends six times. Similarly, the replacement of 194,000 incandescent light bulbs with more efficient lighting in resort hotels is saving 26 million kilowatt hours annually, enough to power 1,450 homes. Walt Disney World Resort also is reducing food waste by distributing approximately 700,000 pounds of excess prepared food through the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
Florida's Fifth Graders Show Green Spirit
Encouraging all Florida fifth-graders to protect the environment, Disney's Environmentality Challengerecognizes students who show why it is "cool to care" about the planet. Judging is currently underway for the statewide competition, which honors class projects that demonstrate a significant commitment to conservation. Last year, a class from Tradewinds Elementary School in Coconut Creek was recognized for its efforts to help fund and support a water conservation project in South Africa. Now in its 11th year,Disney's Environmentality Challenge is a partnership between Walt Disney World Resort and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Since the program's inception, more than 120,000 fifth-grade students have participated.
Merchandise Locations Offer New Eco-Friendly Products
Throughout April, additional eco-friendly products have debuted at merchandise locations across Walt Disney World Resort. Examples of some of the new products include pencils made of recycled plastic, denim and currency; pens made from recycled tires; plush toys and t-shirts made from organic cotton; organic canvas bags; and colorful Eco-Mochila totes made from discarded plastic shopping bags. Guests can also find other unique merchandise, such as recycled candy wrapper bags, t-shirts made from coke bottles and baskets made from telephone wire. A new line of plush called “Tales 4 Tomorrow” can also be found at Disney Outfitters inDisney's Animal Kingdom, where five percent of the proceeds from each purchase are donated to Conservation International.
I love working at a place where they work so hard to help the environment. Everyday I walk past recycling binds, conservation boards, and there is a whole park dedicated in the promotion of awareness for the Earth we live on and importance to keep protecting it for ourselves. Disney is a great place for a hippie like me to work at.

Random Facts about the Jungle Cruise
- Disney World's Jungle Cruise's Spiel is 20 pgs long while Disneyland California is 90 pgs, but Disney World's attraction is longer
- The deepest part of the river is 6ft deep at the Hippo pool.
- There are 2 hidden Mickeys, 1 hidden Goofy, 1 hidden Donald, and 1 hidden Minnie in the attraction. One Mickey is on the crashed airplane, the hidden Donald, Goofy, and Mickey are together as the heads of the boats for the Canoes at the Pigmy Party. The hidden Minnie is the hardest to see, its at the exit of the Temple on the second to last pillar on your left carved into the stone.
- The front half of the wrecked plane is in Disney's Hollywood Studios in the Great Movie Ride as the plane in Casablanca.
- Every time a skipper leaves (on good terms) its tradition to leave your boots behind. They can be seen all over the attraction, including the Managers Office in the queue, the Campsite, and Safari's totem pole.
- The boat ride is 10 mins long or 2,ooo ft long, which ever comes last.

Costumes
I have been studying and learning everything there is to know about being a Jungle Cruise Skipper, and its a lot. I was able to start driving the boat 3 days ago now, and I spoke live in front of an audience yesterday, twice!!! I was that nervous, and I think I did a pretty good job for my first time. My trainer was proud of the 3 of us he trained.
Here are some pictures of the costumes I have been in since I have been here....
These are pics of my costume when I helped out with the Celebration Parade.
And Yes Ladies and Gentlemen is my Skipper's Costume. THis is the costume I am in everyday. This costume, when its cold out like now, consists of a white turtle neck, shirt, tights (my adding because, well because), pants, jacket w/ lining, water bottle w/ clip to clip on my pants, skippers hat, name tag, and watch. Yeah you try remembering all of that at 5:30 in the morning.
Its been ruff, but fun, so fun. Tomorrow is my first day off, and technically my first day as a real Skipper. Today is my last day of training, and my Assessment.
Well thats all for mow. bye guys, and Have a Magical Day.

Day 2/3 in the Disney Adventure
Tomorrow during my in park Orientation I will find out my specific role, but I am hoping for either the Jungle Cruise or the Haunted Mansion.
Early this morning I was able to go to a buliding I have passed hundreds of times, always thinking "One day I will be there as a Cast Member." The Disney Casting building. I went there on not so exciting terms, but once I got all my ducks in a row I was able to leave there with my seat in The Disney Traditions class that I wanted.
So this afternoon I will be taking the Traditions class that I have always hearda bout, and always taken.
I will be working on a video to show you all a tour of my apartment. i have almost moved everything in, all I am missing is to assemble a self unit thingy. See you real soon!!

Day one and Orientation
Hey guys!! Well I have finally arrived!! This is the day I have been working and planing for the past month and a half, and the day that you all have prayed for and anticipated. This post probably isn't going to be the juiciest blog of them all but its only day one people.
I started my morning before the sun did and was on route with my Starbucks coffee by 6am. I was able to watch the sunrise. I only got deterred a few times, but I arrived at the apartment center at 10am, only an hr late. I stood in 11 different lines, and filled out numerous amounts of paper work. Then I rode for the first (of what will be hundreds) of the transit bus system that took us to another (way nicer) apartment complex to have a hilarious mundane orientation where I won a photo album for answering he question "how many countries are college students coming from for the intern program?" I answered 60 and the answer was 63!!
I have now almost completely unpacked, I have only to get my suitcase that has almost all my clothes in it, save fore my over nite bag because I knew I was going to be too tired to lug a 1ton suitcase up 3 flights of stairs.
My apartment has 3 other female students. And o easy your minds all, no I did not end up with my wiccan friend. When I checked-in the computer said that I had no matched roomate. I am sleeping and sharing a bathroom with a girl named Heather form California, who is in the fast food and beverage program. The other room is being shared by a girl named Kathleen who is from Illinois and is also in the fast food and beverage program. And get this, there is a girl from FIU who is i the Attractions program like me, her name is Kanisha.
Well everyone is lounging around and hungry. So I am going to go now, and hopefully eat something healthy.

Ark it the truth
Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's Ark
One : Don't miss the boat.
Two : Remember that we are all in the same boat.
Three : Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
Four : Stay fit When you're 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
Five : Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Six : Build your future on high ground.
Seven : For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
Eight : Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
Nine : When you're stressed, float a while.
Ten : Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

t-11 days
I got an e-mail today from Disney. It is less than 2 weeks now that I pack up my Beetle (Starr) for the first time and move to Lake Buena Vista and become a Disney intern. I am so excited for this opportunity, and yet I am sad to leave my family and friends. But I know God is going to use this opportunity to glorify His name, and He is going to use me to do it!!
